The worst User eXperience ever

As an advocate for the ultimate in UX, i find myself today complaining about the worst experience ever. Thankfully it is not in the online word, having been brave enough to go to the sales today, on a bank holiday to a very large shopping centre, i find myself in the strangest situation ever.

Retailers, especially the big ones, spend millions of £’s each year looking at customer and user experience in their shops, the layouts, the positioning, the heights, colours, even the lighting is all there to make you buy what they want you to buy. Great, sometimes over the top, but if thought out your normally get a good experience.

So, the Sales come around and that all gets thrown out of the window, it seems to be they go back 1000 years and forget everything they have learned. Stack em high, sell em low takes over at some of the biggest retailers, experience zero, quality zero, share of wallet… Zero..

I hate sale shopping, jumble sales, no sizing, no structure, you can’t see anything, they bring out all the old crap that never sells. For a few weeks of the year, the retailers forget the customer and do everything to their own ends.

I can live with it, but it makes no sense, i wonder if anyone has ever done any research in to the sales figures, jumble sale versus normal shopping experience, both with reduced prices but different outlooks. Maybe it is just a Male thing, but i just can’t get what i want.

So here is me now, waiting for the end of the sales so i can get what i want.. BooHoo :(
